Vandem Plas cars

My mate's dad had an Austin Montego Vanden plas. It had leather seats and wood trim.
Anyone else remember the vandem plas models of British Leyland?

Vanden Plas were a very successful high end marque. They should never have touched British Leyland, a very low end firm, with a barge pole.

My cousin had a Rover 3500 Vandem Plas many years ago, it went like the clappers but the gearbox was a cunt of thing to try and select a gear.

I had an ambassador vandem plas in 1993. It was great for cruising around in getting stoned.
Even uglier than Iain Dowie though.

According to howmanyleft.com there isn't a single taxed allegro vanden plas in the UK and less than a hundred in total other models, so it's no wonder they've gained a bit of value.

Urban myth - if you used a crane and lifted an Allegro in the middle the screens would pop out.
I have no idea what this proves, but it adds to the mystique.

I had two Austin Maxis before moving up to an Austin Princess. Beautiful car, so much leg room, twin carb, overhead cam, 0 to 60 in 45 seconds. Colour - metallic brown but I replaced the rear doors with a pair of lime green ones from the breakers. Best anti theft device - never stolen, never lost in a car park.

My Grandad had a vanden Plas metro.
I think the walnut dashboard was worth twice as much as the car.

My mum had a yellow Allegro, the roof leaked, the gearbx was awful as well. WHen she came to sell it we had loads of people come round looking at it.
